Anyone out there obsessed with fresh Lavender? I know there are a team of females around the world that are just as obsessed as me. I buy bags of lavender from the market, and I always want to do so much with them that I actually don’t know WHAT to do with them.
I’ve used it for the beautiful scent, I’ve used it to infuse my own oil, and I’ve heard that it makes excellent seasoning when mixed with salt.
I love lavender so much I just want to eat it.. but that isn’t normal…… So I decided I wanted to pretend it was still Summer outside and make some lavender lemonade and drink it instead. This recipe was extremely easy and it gets better as it sits in your fridge!
NOTE: This recipe makes up to one full pitcher of Lemonade.
3 cups of water
1.5 cups of sugar
Lavender buds (I used a 1/oz bag of buds, which is about the amount of lavender that can fit into a shot glass – all you need)
OR 5-7 branches of Lavender that you may just so happen to steal from your neighbors garden – Don’t laugh, I’ve done it.
Boil the 3 cups of water and add the sugar until it dissolves to make yourself some simple syrup.
Once the sugar is dissolved add the lavender to the pot of simple syrup and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Be sure to enjoy the aroma that the hot lavender lets off into your kitchen, it’s amazing.
While letting the Lavender infuse, squeeze all of the lemons into your pitcher. If you don’t have a lemon juicer/squeezer, this is some serious manual work people – I did it.
Be sure to take the lemon seeds out.
Lastly, after the lavender simple syrup has sat for about 10-15 minutes, add it to the pitcher of lemon juice.. Keep the lavender buds in there, they infuse the lemonade even more as it sits in the fridge days after.
It is going to be a bit sweet, so add another 1/2 cup of water to dilute the mixture and stir.
Pour it over ice, add some garnishes and you’ve got yourself a tasty + chic drink to bring to Summer parties..
Oh yeah, how could I forget? Just add vodka for a lovely libation!
