Relaxation

The beginning of a new year is always my favorite. Why? Because I can’t help but giggle seeing people run in the frigid cold because they made the resolution to “Lose Weight.”

I never make that resolution because I prefer to stay realistic. This year, I’m making a commitment to take care of myself. That can mean so many things, like:

  • You can eat ice cream, but try not to finish the whole carton.
  • Brush your teeth twice a day versus once
  • Exercise when you can, even if it’s just a long walk.
  • Set aside time to RELAX

Relaxing and taking care of myself is big on my list this year. As a young professional, I (as well as many others) get so tied up in my career, responsibilities on top of that, and the occasional cocktail (okay maybe more than occasional), that I forget to set aside time to relax. When I say relax, I don’t mean watch Netflix in bed or scroll through Facebook; I mean put all your devices away and just be .

Read a book, think about how you can make your days better, or don’t even think at all. Over-thinking causes stress, and stress gives you wrinkles + pimples, who wants that?!

What helps me relax is a comfy place, and a cup of tea. Coffee is great, but it has mentally trained us to “Go to work” or “Do something, immediately.” Tea is much more relaxing for the body + brain..   If you’re as much of a tea-head as I am, Teavana has a new line of wellness teas – caffeinated and decaffeinated – and I’m a huge fan.

This year, I’m not making an unrealistic resolution. I’m making a commitment to be a better me, and you should too.
